Let me tell you how I became the Jacksonville Affordable Housing Guy…
My father, Earl Alexander, got into the real estate rental business back when I was a baby. Through the years, I worked in the business by cutting grass, painting, and whatever manual task that needed to be done.
I was not a particularly gifted manual laborer so off to college I went. During those years, I still spent a little time doing odds and ends and being a part of the business aspects. Since I never learned how to make as much money as I needed helping my dad, I began my career. Although I was not doing manual labor for the business any more, my father would keep me current with our almost weekly Subway or McDonald’s lunches. There was a lot of funny things l learned about tenants, code enforcement officers, and rules/taxes. One important lesson my father always stressed was to own my home so one day I will not have a house payment.
There was no doubt – my father’s passion was renting to working class families. He enjoyed getting to know them and working to keep them as happy renters. He loved what he did. You could tell by what he did every day and what he talked about.
When he died in December 2012, I bought several of his houses from his wife. At first, my plan was continue as my dad it. It worked for him. It did not take long to see the business would not make it if I kept trying to run the business his way–I did not have the time, money or skills. I did have the passion for helping people but knew I had to change or the business would not last.
2014 is when I met Lou Brown and knew that the Certified Affordable Housing Provider Program was perfect for me. It gave me the techniques, tools and technology to be able to buy houses at price that would allow me to make houses affordable for others to own. I could do what I wanted – help working class families own their own homes. Since then, I have helped 8 families become home owners. Now that I have a system that works, I am ready to help many more people as The Jacksonville Affordable Housing Guy.
My vision is to make Jacksonville, Florida famous for affordable housing. I want people talking about, writing about and visiting Jacksonville to see what we are doing about making housing affordable.
My mission is to transform lives through affordable housing to empower families and individuals to realize and enjoy the American dream of home ownership.
My objective is to help people own their home for less than what they pay in rent.
If you want to be home owner, please fill out the Contact Form (click here).
My legacy goal is to help 1,000 working class families find an affordable home and start the Jacksonville Affordable Housing Revival.
Looking forward to helping 12 families in 2024 if it is God’s Will!
